Mo’ Cowbell

Christopher Walken is the muther-effin’ man. Some 8 years after delivering one of the best sketch performances in SNL history, the phrase “I gotta have more cowbell!” is as relevant as ever.

Here’s NAPT, breakbeat producers. With their take on the legendary skit.

Diplo Diplo Diplo

BBC’s Radio 1 has The Essential Mix show hosted by Pete Tong. For two straight hours, Djs, Producers, etc. step up to the tables and mix down their very own set. Last September Diplo(of Holletronix, M.I.A. fame, Mad Decent Records) stepped up to the plate and dropped one of the best mixes I’ve jammed to in a while.

These Donuts Are Killing ME

Yo, pun intended on this one. I drink way too much coffee…and you know what goes along with that. I’m getting  lil tubby around the waist.

Not much to say here. Dilla’s definitely a legend. There’s usually a plethora of material the streams out after these rap legends pass on but sorry folks, no Pay Jay bootleg here. The Dilla estate is in just too much turmoil for that.

Just a dope tribute mix from a couple guys you’ve never heard of.

Feed the manageable(s)

Never mind the title. Last weekend me and my best'est friends hit up Bootie for gay pride weekend. Bootie is San Francisco's bi-monthly mashup bootleg party. Sometimes I think mash-up music is a bastardized musical art form devoid of any real substance. (Isn't that what they said about Rap music 20 or so years ago?) Well, This is maybe the most fun club I've gone to consistently. Anyhoot, everytime I leave place I get that mash up kick. Cool thing about this genre, is that the music is easily accessible for free from the web (the medium that basically facilitates its life).

Well, that's just back story. So a while back I checked out this free documentary online Good Copy, Bad Copy, concerning the use and unexplored potential of a restriction free world wide web. Like eliminate all the bureaucracy with policing the web and RiAA head hunters, supposedly it'll open the doors for the creative minds out there to explore all ends of the earth. Well digitally at least.

I digress again. This post is about Girl Talk. They interviewed this cat in the movie. Dude seems like the mash-up king of all time. Where they last left of with this kid in the movie he was exploring the drum breaks used in the Techno Brega movement in Brasil. I meant to check for his stuff but never got around to it.

Fast forward to now, I was reading this month's Rolling Stone (with barak Obama on the cover), and here's this fucker's new record in the reviews section.(!!) A bootlegger gone legit? Either way, I copped...and listened. Dude is mashing and mixing at 100 miles an hour. Fun stuff.

This one's for my bootie compadres, they'd enjoy it.
